My name is Maligiaq, which means “following waves growing up”. I am from Greenland.
My first memories of being on the water are with my grandfather’s wooden boat hunting seals and sea birds. As I grew up, I would look outside and the first thing I would see is my grandfather’s kayak frame on the racks – with so many hunting stories behind it. This is where I started kayaking in 1994. I started travelling around the world in 1998, learning other countries’ cultures. For 10 years, I lived in Alaska learning Alaskan native cultures, traditional kayak designs and history. I am honoured to have been part of Black Feather’s guide team in the summer of 2025 in the most northern populated region of Greenland: the fjord south of Qaanaaq. I am excited for the next trip in Greenland to meet you and guide you. See you in Greenland!
