Choose your craft and join us to paddle from the start of the whitewater section to the Coppermine River to the small hamlet of Kugluktuk, on the Arctic Ocean! This trip allows a mixed group of paddlers to join the same itinerary and enjoy the spectacular rapids, red cliffs, amazing wildlife sightings together, in both canoe and raft. The Coppermine is renowned for its wildlife and fascinating history and has been designated a Canadian Heritage River. We will have the chance to see caribou and muskoxen grazing along the shores as we work our way through fun class I-III rapids, some lakes, and a lazy river current. There is remarkable bird life, including nesting golden eagles and gyrfalcons. The Arctic char fishing can be exceptional. The river is clear, the air fresh and the landscape immense and timeless. The trees dwindle until we paddle out onto the true barrens beneath the midnight sun. We will camp for our final night at Kugluktuk Territorial Park, where Bloody Falls flows past and we may see the local Inuit fishing on the banks. We will finish the trip by paddling to the Arctic Ocean at Coronation Gulf, and we’ll spend the night in the Inuit hamlet of Kugluktuk before returning to Yellowknife by plane the following day.
