The Spanish River offers paddlers beautiful scenery, an ever-changing landscape, few portages and and some great whitewater challenges. The river flows from its headwaters at Biscotasing and Duke Lakes, the two upstream branches joining at the Forks, then flowing on to empty into the North Channel of Lake Huron. The Ontario government “Lands for Life” process has named the Spanish River a Provincial Waterway Park, encompassing a narrow strip of land along both shores of the river. The exclusion of logging, mining, hydro and other large scale exploitive activities help ensure the preservation of this great wild river paddling destination.
On this Spanish River trip, you will meet the group in Cartier, Ontario. After a van shuttle to the river, four and a half days’ worth of paddling, portaging, rapid scouting and rapid running await you.
